I got very little feedback to my questions during October, so I began asking my friends the same things:
1. Is it time to look at a compensation package for teachers that pulls away from steps and lanes?
Without exception, people were “warm” to this idea. I wouldn’t say anybody was jumping for joy, but everyone thought it was a notion whose time has come. Great teachers should be rewarded. All teachers should be rigorously evaluated.
2. Should we exercise a local levy to finance this QComp? (Remember we can levy up to $70…. )
Here my friends gave up. No reaction to this. I think it is because the concept of a local levy is not common coffee shop conversation. So let me ask this another way. Let’s say that we can pass the hat to pay for extra pay for really good teachers. Would you support that? This question received lukewarm reception…. as in friends might support it if they knew more about it.
