The Northfield School Board has indicated, through a letter of intent, to participate in the Q-Comp program which came out of the last legislative session. The letter needed to be signed by the administration and the teacher’s union. Q-Comp was proposed by Governor Pawlenty and I believe became a bargaining chip as the extra session ground on. Pawlenty got his Q-Comp and the schools got an increase in the funding formula.
Q-Comp says teachers will be paid on the basis of merit, not just on the traditional steps and lanes in a salary schedule. Northfield, with a letter of intent, is only signaling it’s participation in 1006-07. But the letter also says that during 1005-06 staff development will be centered upon preparing for the program.
I propose in this posting to put some questions out for the public to chew on. READ ON IN THE EXTENDED ENTRY.
