Effective School Board Members Share….”

The Minnesota School Board Association states “effective school board members share a number of characteristics” including:
· A conviction that public education is important
· The ability to make decisions
· Loyalty to the democratic process
· Time and energy to devote to board business
· Ability to accept the will of the majority
· Respect for district staff
· Ability to communicate well with others
· Courage, integrity, commitment
This list is challenging! I believe it is an accurate measure of the typical Northfield School Board member. I hope to follow in the strong tradition established in our district for listening to the public and making decisions based on evidence.
